Taking Intimate Notes

Market Week

Design Notes

With the Lingerie shows as a backdrop, moving into the design room has its challenges. Prints looked like the number one theme, but so did the basics. The one main difference from previous years was the stand-out. Remember when banding was all the rage, and everyone had to have it. Design rooms went into a frantic pace to copy the originator. Season after season, the band could not die. Even now, it still graces the diehard agenda but at least it is embellished with new concept ideas. Looking at a lot of intimates brands, searching for the next level of excitement the only thing that stands out is lack of originality.

Just saying!

This is for the creative who works hard at their craft, and then someone changes it into something else.

The Dance

They called the warehouse girl into the studio to give her opinion on the collection. The designer was silent in the rage but has seen it many times before. Sometimes it is the secretary or the owner's wife or kids, but the story is usually the same; change it until it becomes someone else vision of what is already out there. They have stacks of inventory from the competition and dissect it until it is the perfect reformation of the other guy's line. Then, when it doesn't meet everyone's expectations, the first person they call upon is the designer to find out what happened, and the beat goes on.

How many design rooms
never let their designers design?
